Cumbernauld units snapped up for church

Former Cumbernauld business premises will soon be functioning as a place of worship thanks to a giant cash injection.

Freedom City Church (FCC) which was created in Cumbernauld back in 1993 is to move into a permanent new home in St Mungo’s Road — bringing the total number of churches in the street to two!

It is located across the road from St Mungo’s Parish Church in the former General George Carpet Shop and The Bed Shed.

The church is set to open within the next few months thanks in part to a £46,601 grant from funding body WREN.

The organisation awards grants for community and heritage projects and is funded by the Scottish Communities Landfill Fund.

The cash is being used to fit out two floors with public areas and toilet facilities.

Susanne Hamilton of FCC said: “This project is intended as a resource to the community of Cumbernauld.

“WREN’s support is greatly appreciated and we are looking forward to the church’s opening.”

WREN grant manager Sophie Cade added: “We are delighted to be supporting such a vital community facility and look forward to seeing the new centre in use later this year.

“We are always looking for new community projects to support.”
