Cyclist Stephen left with facial injuries due to potholes

CYCLIST Stephen Evans was left with horrific injuries to his face when his bike went into a pothole near Dolphinton last week.

He also chipped a bone in his elbow and the facial injuries were so bad that he had to take time off work.

Now he is looking at a claim against South Lanarkshire Council for damages for his injuries and his wrecked bike.

Stephen, a valuation manager with Your Move First, had cycled from his home in Forth heading to Penicuik last Sunday, through Carnwath, then took the Dunsyre Road.

He was near Dolphinton when the accident happened.

“I was thrown off my bike after hitting a huge pothole,” he said.

“It was a wet day and the hole was full of water. I went straight into it.

“It just threw me over the handlebars and my face hit the road.”

Drivers stopped to help, and a woman took him into a nearby farmhouse where he phoned for someone to come to collect him and his wrecked bike.

The pain at that point was not too bad – Stephen believed it had not kicked in because he was in shock – and he was taken home.
