Dad inspires Andy Marks trek challenge

WHEN Lanark man Andy Marks begins a long trek through the Peruvian jungle next month, his thoughts will still be firmly back home in the Royal Burgh.

Specifically, they will be with his dad David, the well-known and popular Lanark Amateur Musical Society leading light who is currently battling cancer in the town’s Lockhart Hospital.

Indeed, it is his dad’s illness which has led 44-year-old Andy, a former Lanark Grammar pupil now living and working in Glasgow, to embark on the marathon South American sojourn, sponsored in aid of the St Andrew’s Hospice which has been helping his dad and the rest of the Marks family through this most harrowing of times.

”Dad has been diagnosed with lung cancer and has had two admissions to the hospice since November last year for treatment and care.

“The hospice is a fantastic place with very dedicated staff who give exceptional care and support to patients and their relatives and it does this without any government support, relying on donations from individuals and companies.”
