Danny set to stand down

LABOUR Councillor Danny Carrigan has announced that he will not be standing for office in next year’s council elections.

The Cumbernauld South councillor (63) has decided to step down from his position stating that the request to pledge another five years of his service to the council and the Labour party had forced his hand, but that the decision has been made amicably.

“It has been great to be a councillor for five years but I feel I can not commit myself for another five years,” said the councillor, who will now attend a Masters course in modern Scottish history at Glasgow University after he retires.
