Dedication to the cause for Firpark pupils

Senior pupils from Firpark Secondary bid farewell to 2015 by celebrating four months of dedicated fundraising for St Andrew's Hospice.

A cheque for £1,075 was presented to the hospice’s Schools and Community Development Coordinator, Andy Flynn at their annual Christmas service.

Two projects have been working in tandem within the school since August to achieve this goal.

S6 Hospitality pupils have been providing catering services in the school bistro, which is open to the public on Fridays from noon-2pm and serves restaurant quality food at affordable prices.

The training for this is offered in conjunction with New College Lanarkshire, and lead by chef, Allan Milliken, with front of house training provided by Leanne Mason.

The pupils raised over £500 in tips, which they donated to the hospice.

The S6 Volunteering group have been upcycling used bottles to create stunning Christmas bottle lights, to decorate tables and fireplaces during the festive season.

They also used pine cones from the school grounds to make rustic Christmas ornaments with a Highland theme.

They raised £570 for the hospice, and a further £250 for the school’s community friends, Motherwell South Parish Church, by setting up a stall at their recent Christmas Fair.

The senior pupils are now embarking upon a new fundraising project for 2016.
