Deleted scene from Transformers? Excerpt from World War Z? Nope ... it’s Lenzie!

Residents woke recently to find the concrete water tower at the former Woodilee Hospital in Lenzie had been torn down.

The 18m tower and pumping station, in the Fauldhead area, have both been demolished and the detritus is now being crushed.

Builders made sure they didn’t bite off more than they could chew by demolishing the eyesore using a ‘large muncher machine’.

The consortium of housebuilders at Woodilee Village are preparing the groundworks for phase two of the development.

Approximately 250 houses have been built to date in phase one. The completed development will be around 900 new homes.

The water tower, which used to provide water facilities to the hospital, is pictured inset.

Doug Riddell, project director of the Woodilee Housbuilding Consortium, said: “In accordance with good environmental practice, all material will get crushed down and reused as part of the infrastructure for phase two of the housing development – under roads, for example.”
