Demolition of Carstairs Junction homes is not to go ahead

A packed public meeting at Carstairs Junction was told by council housing officials that the homes thought to be doomed due to ground instability caused by drainage problems on Allison Street, Allison Place, Pettinain Road and King Street, are now deemed to be saveable.

And it was announced that a major £1.2 million upgrading to the 44 houses still in council ownership would begin in the near future. There are a further 26 homes in these streets which were bought by tenants who feared their houses would be bought for a knock-down price by compulsory purchase order and be demolished too.
