Dentist Drew is up for crown

He is one of just seven individuals from Greater Glasgow and Clyde region shortlisted for a title in the Scottish Health Awards 2015.

Drew, who is principal dental surgeon at Bearsden Dental Care, is a contender in the Dentist Award section of the annual contest.

Along with fellow nominees he’s said to have fought off heavy competition from across the country to secure his place at next month’s glittering awards ceremony.

He has been described as a caring and considerate dentist who is dedicated to achieving excellent oral health care for his patients.

A spokeswoman for the organisers said: “Drew has also been supporting residents at Westerton Care Home through a government initiative, Caring for Smiles, for the past three years.

“This often involves helping residents who have dementia, meaning he has to spend a lot of time gaining their trust.

“He has been praised for his communication skills and attention to detail.”

The practice, at 12 Ledi Drive, Bearsden, has previously won a string of awards for the quality of its service.

Drew has a special interest in the management of anxious patients and holds postgraduate qualifications in sedation and pain management.

He also holds membership with the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Glasgow. Drew currently sits on the Area Dental Committee and GP sub-committee for Greater Glasgow and Clyde health board.

He also sits on a Scottish Government working group looking to address the domicilliary dental care needs of the elderly.

Outwith his busy professional life he is keen on sport, particularly running. He also enjoys travel and is currently learning to fly.

In 2013 Drew congratulated his colleagues for winning the national Practice of the Year award at a ceremony staged in Gleneagles Hotel.

Dr Gibson thanked his team for that ultimate achievement, commenting: “We were up against some stiff competition from much larger practices.”
