Leslie and Patricia McNie didn’t need the day to dawn on their 60th wedding
anniversary to start the party because they’ve been
celebrating all year.

The dynamic duo have enjoyed holidays to Mallorca and Fuengirola plus a garden party in Craigmarloch and a celebratory on-screen message at Celtic Park bearing their photographs.

Last Thursday they finally received their celebratory telegram from the Queen which seemed especially apt because Leslie from Springburn and Townhead lass Patricia married in the year of her Coronation.

The big day took place at St Michael’s in Parkhead. And early stages of their marriage were partly spent in Germany where Leslie was stationed with the RAF.

However, the pair are proud Cumbernauld ‘‘pioneers’’ who moved to Cumbernauld’s Ellisland Road in 1962 where they raised their two sons and four daughters. Some readers will recognise Leslie as an engineer at Burroughs.

Hillcrest Court has been their home since 1999 and their cosy flat was festooned with cards from well-
wishers.

Leslie (85) said: “Our relationship has been all about give and take. You have got to have a bit of come and go.

Former bookbinder Patricia (81) said: “Raising a family has been hard work but we are so happy at the way things have worked out.’

The couple also have seven grandchildren and one great grandchild.
