Difficult decision to divide up £30k

Everyone will be a winner as three community projects compete for their share of grant money from the Tesco Extra in Bellshill.

The store has a total of £30,000 to give away through its Bags for Help scheme and has shortlisted Hope Street Park in Mossend, Sacred Heart Primary School playground and Viewpark Family Centre garden which will all receive a share of the cash.

The grant scheme, instigated following the introduction of the 5p carrier bag charge, will now ask the public to decide how much money each will get.

Starting on Monday and running until Sunday, October 9, customers will be asked to vote for their favourite project.

The winner will receive a grant of £12,000, with £10,000 going to second place and £8,000 being awarded to third place.

Mossend and Holytown councillor Frank McNally is particularly keen to see Hope Street Park benefit as the money will be used to buy a wheelchair swing.

He said: “I would like to thank Tesco for shortlisting these three excellent projects and I am delighted that all will receive a grant.

“I am pleased Hope Street Park will be receiving at least £8,000 as the application for a specialist wheelchair swing is aimed at making the facilities as accessible as possible for children with disabilities.”
