Dinner lady Margaret hangs up her apron

DINNER lady Margaret Quin cooked up a stew of emotions when she retired after serving up lunches for the last 15 years.

Margaret began working as a dinner lady at Cumbernauld Village Primary School back in 1995.

And when the new Cumbernauld and St Andrew's Primary joint campus opened Margaret continued to dish out dinners, this time as catering manager.

However, last week, the gran-of-seven hung up her apron for the last time, when she retired, on her 66th birthday.

Margaret, who lives with her partner Alan in Castlecary. said: "I kept doing this job because I just love the kids.

"I have very good staff as well, two of them have actually been with me since I worked at Cumbernauld Village."

Margaret, who has three daughters and a son, is going to keep busy in retirement.

She already has some travel on the horizon, including a cruise around the Canary Islands with here grand-daughter Victoria.

But Margaret will be taking fond memories of her time in the school with her.

She said: "You really get to know the kids and I'm going to miss them the most."

Staff and pupils, who presented Margaret with flowers, champagne and presents, were also sad to see her go.

Cumbernauld Primary head teacher Maggie Brown, said: "Margaret is a very popular member of staff.

"She kept working after retirement age because she loved being around the kids."
