This year, the event will welcome 150 renowned authors and speakers to the city for a huge celebration of books and writing.

The festival will also be a central part of Glasgow’s Culture 2014 celebrations, with many of the festival’s events marking the Commonwealth Games — and featuring writing and writers from across the Commonwealth.

Among invited writers are last year’s Booker Prize winner, Eleanore Catton, who will be travelling from New Zealand to attend.

Also, controversial comedian Frankie Boyle will be making his debut, sharing with audiences the books that helped sharpen his wit and build his career.

And Pub Landlord himself, Al Murray, will be discarding his blazer to speak about his childhood obsession with war films, Commando comics — and Action Man.

Karen Cunningham, Aye Write! director and head of Glasgow libraries, said: “We are excited about bringing so many renowned authors and speakers to Glasgow in this very special year for the city.
