Dobbies Ladies’ night set to become an annual event

The first Ladies’ night event at Dobbies’ Cumbernauld went well and plans are now being made to establish an annual event at the garden centre.

The evening, held in support of Dobbies’ national appeal to raise money for the Make a Wish Foundation, which grants the wishes of terminally ill children.

May Rankin, community champion, said: “The event went very well. Dobbies did it last year across its bigger centres but this was the first time we’ve had it in Cumbernauld. It was well supported so we’re planning to do it every year.”

The exclusive shopping evening, just for ladies featured lots of tips and ideas to make Christmas celebrations a big hit with guests.

With festive fizz, gift ranges, musical entertainment and pamper sessions, plus demonstrations from Dobbies experts on how to make wreaths and bundles to culinary presentations such as “Nibbles in Nine Minutes” , there was plenty to take in.

Amanda Williams, director of fundraising at Make-A-Wish, said: “We’re thrilled that Dobbies has chosen to fundraise for Make-A-Wish. Each year more and more children are turning to us to have their magical wish granted, and this year we hope to grant over 1,000 wishes, so their support really is invaluable.”

There are more than 20,000 children in the UK with a life-threatening condition. Make a Wish UK was established 26 years ago and so far has granted more than 8,000 of these wishes from visiting an aircraft carrier to seeing the CERN particle accelerator.
