Dogs Trust Glasgow reaches milestone with 100th adoption this year

The 100th dog to go home was Poppy, the Labradoodle, who couldn’t wait to arrive at her new home and settle in.

Poppy had been at the rehoming centre for six months before being spotted by Claire and her partner David. They had been looking for their first canine companion for a while and it was love at first sight when they met Poppy.

Claire said: “We had been thinking about getting a dog for a while but never had a particular breed in mind. When we saw Poppy for the first time she was just a ray of sunshine and so bouncy and happy.

“Since we took her home Poppy has settled in really well and gets excited every time she has been out for a walk and comes back into the house.

“She just adores getting attention and playing with her toys all day, until its time to snuggle up on the sofa.

“Getting a dog is a big decision but Poppy has added so much value to our lives and we can’t imagine what our lives would be like without her.”

As the 100th dog leaves Dogs Trust, the rehoming centre welcomed the 100th dog of the year into their care.

Fifteen-week-old Rottweiler cross puppy Jura became the latest edition to join the Dogs Trust Glasgow family and is currently waiting on her forever home, after being found straying.

Sandra Lawton, Rehoming Centre Manager at Dogs Trust Glasgow, said: “It is fantastic that we have rehomed so many dogs already this year, but there are still plenty of dogs in our care who would love to find their forever homes.

“We wouldn’t be able to care for dogs in the way we do without a community of passionate dog lovers, as well as support from players of People’s Postcode Lottery, which allows us to give dogs a temporary home, while waiting on their special someone coming forward.

“Although it is emotional saying goodbye to dogs when they head off with new families, we know they are going on to fulfill their potential as family pets; and there is always another dog round the corner in need of our support.

“We look forward to hearing all about Poppy’s antics in her new home as she is full of character and really will make the best companion. Everyone’s fingers and paws are crossed that Jura will also find her special someone soon.”

Since 2014, players of People’s Postcode Lottery have raised more than £9.5million for Dogs Trust and that has benefited hundreds of dogs.
