Doors Open Day in Cumbernauld and Kilsyth

Croy Miners Welfare and Community Centre

DOORS Open Day will take place this weekend with some of the most historically and culturally important buildings in Cumbernauld and Kilsyth welcoming in the public.

The annual event gives members of the public an opportunity to view historic artifacts and architecture throughout both towns which they may normally not be privy to.

Local churches, factories and historical sites all take part in the event which remains a popular fixture in both town’s social calendars.

As always, the most popular events have sold out first, such as the tour of the Barrs Irn Bru factory on Mollins Road. However, there are still lots of opportunities to view other historical and important sites throughout Cumbernauld and Kilsyth.

Visitors will be able to view the stained glass windows at Kilsyth Burns and Old Parish Church, as well as hear a recent history of the church, which will be read by Bill Gracie and sample a memorabilia corner which has also been set up.

Outdoor adventures are also on offer with a guided heritage walk up and over Croy Hill on Sunday 11, starting at Auchinstarry Quarry.
