Dovesdale campaigners visit Lanark Community Council

A NIGHTMARE picture of polluting incinerators mushrooming throughout Clydesdale was painted by local environmentalists.

Members of the Dovesdale Incinerator Action Group, battling plans to build a new gasification waste-to-energy recycling plant near Blackwood/Kirkmuirhill, spoke at Lanark Community Council on Monday.

The aim of their visit was to warn that, should the scheme go ahead, it could open the floodgates for similar developments throughout this area.

Their visit was prompted by a Gazette report on a debate by the Community Council from which it was generally agreed that the incinerator was not directly relevant to Lanark.

However, the Community Council invited the Action Group to put its case directly to members.

After the presentation, community council acting chairman Leonard Gray said that he thought that the fairest thing to do would be to invite the Dovesdale developers, Scotgen, to address the community council too.
