Drama at Crossford Raft Race

A DRAMATIC Crossford Raft Race on Saturday saw Carluke's Amy Morton left stranded on a rock, after her Teenie's Team raft was swept away by a current.

This was just one incident of many in a race contested by 11 teams, which was eventually won in one hour 31 minutes by Carluke Young Farmers team Hijacked, namely Robert Allison, Mike Hamilton, Graeme Barr and Iain Struthers.

"Amy had been trying to push her team's raft away from a rock they'd hit," said Alison McCornick, secretary of race organisers Carluke Young Farmers Club.

"But before she could get back on, the raft had been swept away.

"She had to swim 200 yards to catch up with her team-mates and get back on the raft.

"Bits of the course (from Hazelbank Park to Overton Farm Shop) were quite lively which made it tricky for the competitors."
