Dramatic pictures show moment car ploughed into family home in Kirkintilloch

These photographs were taken moments after a speeding motorist lost control of his car and crashed into a family's living room in Kirkintilloch.

Ross Aitken (23) from Kirkintilloch, ploughed into the house at Waterside Road on October 27, 2014.

This week he was jailed for 18 months at Glasgow Sheriff Court after admitting a charge of dangerous driving. His white Vauxhall Astra smashed through the wall of the Wright family’s home at the junction of Bankhead Road and Waterside Road, Kirkintilloch.

He was charged too, with driving at excessive speed, failing to slow down and losing control of the vehicle, causing it to leave the roadway.

Aitken also admitted causing Lindy Wright serious injury and permanent disfigurement and also injuring her 13-year-old daughter.

Lindy was taken to Glasgow Royal Infirmary where she underwent surgery to remove tissue from a leg wound and received 30 stitches. She was left with permanent scarring.

Aitken’s car failed to stop at a give way junction, mounted the kerb, sailed over a grass verge, through a metal pedestrian railing and over a communications box before smashing into the Wright’s front garden and into their living room window.

In a statement, the Wright family said: “We would like to draw a line under this now, leave it in the past and move on.”
