Dreich day doesn’t stop Forth Gala Day

The village tradition which started 89 years ago carried on during a Saturday with the kind of weather they invented the word `dreich’ for.

However, another old Forth tradition is gritty determination to carry on whatever the difficulties and that’s just what the villagers, young and old, did that day, defying wind and rain to have a good time despite everything the elements could do to try to spoil their party.

In fact, Gala Committee vice-chair Julie Steele told the Gazette that it was one of the most successful celebrations in recent years.

“Actually, we had more entries this year than last and when it came to handing out the prizes for the procession entries, we had a winner for each of the different categories, unlike 2011.

“Yes, it was very wet but everyone just got on with it. In fact, the only major effect the weather had was moving the crowning ceremony into the Sports Centre. It didn’t spoil the day at all; in fact, everyone had a great time.”
