Driver rescued from car after smash

The accident happened near the railway viaduct in a route that links the Broadwood area with Kilsyth, last Sunday at around 11.40pm.

The good samaritans succeeded in pulling the driver, a 24-year-old male from Kilsyth, from his white Ford Fiesta, before emergency services arrived.

Ambulance personnel took the man to Glasgow Royal Infirmary where he was treated for injuries which are not believed to be life-threatening.

A police spokesperson said the motorist has since been reported to the fiscal for allegedly driving under the influence of alcohol.

He added: “We would like to thank the members of the public who assisted the male prior to our arrival and for the way they safely removed him and assisted him until the emergency services arrived.”
