Driver taken to hospital after crash between taxi and bus

Firefighters had to cut free a taxi driver trapped in his car following a collision with a bus in Motherwell yesterday (Tuesday) at lunchtime.

Scottish Fire and Rescue Service crews from Motherwell, Bellshill and Hamilton were called to Ladywell Road around 11.30am.

They used hydraulic cutting equipment to remove the roof from the white car and free the injured motorist.

Paramedics treated him inside the car while firefighters worked to create the space needed to lift him clear.

After being safely released he was taken to Wishaw General Hospital by ambulance.

While firefighters and paramedics worked to rescue the trapped motorist, ambulance personnel also tended to five other people at the scene, a female passenger in the taxi, the bus driver and his three passengers.

Of these five a woman and a second man were taken to hospital for precautionary check-ups.

Firefighters made the scene safe before leaving the incident in the control of the police around 12.30pm.

An area outside Ladywell Primary from Wellview Drive to Douglas Street was taped off for several hours as officers carried out an investigation.

This incident comes just days after an 11-year-old girl was knocked down in The Loaning on Saturday and required hospital treatment.
