The coming weeks will see the start of a series of works in Kirkintilloch Town Centre and drivers have been warned that some disruption is inevitable.

But council leader Rhondda Geekie insists that the works will pay dividends and pledged that Kirkintilloch will be free of temporary traffic lights and road closures in the run-up to Christmas.

She said: “Our roads service has a responsibility to schedule road and footway works, managing the demands of our Kirkintilloch Masterplan projects and road maintenance works alongside the requirements of developers and other service providers.”

“Although there may be some disruption in the coming months the works will ultimately deliver long term benefits to the area.

“I’d like to assure all businesses and traders that we will of course ensure that there are no works taking place in the town from the start of December in the important run up to Christmas, unless in an emergency situation.”
