Drop-in events about parking

A series of public information events to help people get up to speed on Decriminalised Parking Enforcement (DPE) are now underway.

The drop-in events will help drivers map out where they can and cannot park in East Dunbartonshire’s towns and villages.

The new Decriminalised Parking Enforcement (DPE) regime begins on April 2 - and drivers who flout restrictions will face fines.

East Dunbartonshire Council wants to make sure that people are informed in advance to increase safety and help them avoid being penalised.

Strathclyde Police withdrew traffic wardens locally in 2011, with police officers responsible for parking enforcement in the meantime.

Councillors agreed the authority should take on parking control duties - previously carried out by traffic wardens - and the Scottish Government has approved the council’s application to transfer enforcement powers.

The meetings are going to be held in:

· Bishopbriggs Library - Friday, March 14, 10am to 1pm

· Allander Sports Centre, Milngavie - Saturday, March 15, 10am to 1pm

· Lennoxtown Library - Monday 17 March, 2pm to 4.30pm

· Kirkintilloch Leisure Centre - Saturday 22 March, 10am to 1pm

· Bishopbriggs Leisuredrome - Saturday 29 March, 10am to 1pm

Information will also be available from community hubs, libraries, leisure centres and online by visiting their website - www.eastdunbarton.gov.uk
