Eaglesham group causes a stir for cancer charity

The event, organised by the 1990 Eaglesham Macmillan Cancer Support Committee, saw hundreds of supporters turn out for coffee, tea, cakes and craft stalls, as well as an art exhibition by local artists, each donating part of their proceeds to the cause.

The committee’s coffers swelled by £872 raised on the day, and chair Eileen Morton thanked everyone who came along.

She commented: “The syrup loaf and chocolate tray bake were particularly popular, with people even asking for the recipes.

“It was a great event, and once again the people of Eaglesham and surrounding areas got behind us wholeheartedly, helping us raise money to fund Macmillan’s vital 
services.”

Elaine Hamilton, Macmillan fundraising manager for Glasgow south, congratulated the group on a successful event, and added thanks on behalf of the charity.

The Eaglesham committee’s ever-increasing total has now reached £125,412 raised over the last 13 years.

The next event is a ladies lunch, held in the Eglinton Arms Hotel on November 1 — tickets selling fast.

And from Eaglesham to Shawlands (via Giffnock), as Cosgrove Care announces a new project setting up stall at its two southside charity shops.

The Giffnock-based learning disability charity is expanding its supported employment project — educating and training young adults with learning difficulties to enter the world of work — to include a furniture restoration project.

Cosgrove will be upcycling furniture donated to its Shawlands shops, sanding varnishing and painting items before selling them on.
