East Ren food festival

Regardless of what tickles your tastebuds, there is something for everyone at the East Renfrewshire food festival.

The programme will stay true to its Scottish roots with some local delicacies, but there will also be a chance to try food from around the world.

Culinary delights on offer range from Russian to Italian or Chinese to Nepalese.

However Indian food takes centre stage with the help of former The One Show comedian Hardeep Singh Kohli.

On Saturday September 18, the comic visits Eastwood park theatre for a melting pot of comedy and cookery.

The former Celebrity Masterchef runner up's show will be complimented by side dishes from Ashoka at the Mill in Darnley.

Their staff will be at the event full Indian dress offering snacks from the Indian subcontinent's main culinary regions of Lahore, Rajastani, Punjabi, Nepalese and South India in the theatre's foyer.

The ERC food festival kicks off on Wednesday at new Clarkston eatery, Clark and Sons.

EPT stages a special Russian evening on Saturday September 11 with traditional folk music, dance and food on the menu.

The performers come from Glasgow's twinned city Rostov on Don.

The following Tuesday, a demonstration of kosher cooking takes place at L'Chaims restaurant in Giffnock (the only Jewish Kosher restaurant in Scotland.

Rabbi Chaim Jacobs (64), who runs L'chaim with his wife Sora Jacobs told The Extra: "We are going to be putting on a short demonstration of some traditional Jewish foods eaten at the Jewish new year.

"It is something different and everybody is welcome to come.

"The food festival is a welcome opportunity to showcase local restaurants. "

Alcohol connoisseurs can choose from whiskey tasting on September 15 at EPT or wine tasting the following evening at Parklands Country Club.

The programme (available from www.eastrenfrewshire .gov.uk) is filled with events ranging from storytelling and Bookbug sessions in libraries to finding out how the Scotch pie was made locally at the Whitelee wind farm visitors centre.

Economic development convener Councillor Tony Buchanan said: "After the success of our first food festival this year's looks even better with an amazing feast of tantalising activities to whet appetite.

"It promises to be a week long festival of food, flavour and fun".
