East Ren footie favourite to carry the baton

East Ren man Andrew Davies may be approaching 80 — but he’s still fit as a fiddle, and proving it by carrying the Queen’s baton.

Andrew is one of thousands of volunteers chosen for the Queen’s Baton Relay, marking the start of next month’s Commonwealth Games.

Daughter Sharon Kenny congratulated her dad on the honour, and told The Extra: “He has been heavily involved in football all his life and has been a big part of East Ren football since 1968.

“He has worked with 231 Boys Brigade, Clarkston Amateurs, Stamperland Amateurs, Giffnock North and Giffnock Soccer Centre.”
