East Ren joins the green campaign for Earth Hour 2015

As reported in last week’s Extra, Glasgow City Council have signed up to the environmental awareness drive, with major landmarks plunging into darkness to show support for the people and wildlife affected by climate change.

East Renfrewshire has now pledged its support, with venues across the area switching off for one hour at 8.30pm on Saturday, March 28.

Council staff are being encouraged to do the same in their own homes, and councillor Vincent Waters, environment convener at ERC, said: “Earth Hour is an excellent way to show the people in power that you want them to do more to deal with global warming and climate change.

“It is now a global event and growing every year. It is an important step on the road to converting our planet to a low carbon existence.

“I will be switching the lights in my home off for the hour. So why don’t you do the same on March 28 and do your bit.”

In Glasgow, George Square will act as a hub for the city’s Earth Hour activities, with lights going out between 8pm and 10pm on March 28.

Bailie Liz Cameron commented: “I hope everyone will switch off their lights and come and join us for free, fun and above all green activities.”
