A council spokesman said: “A minor incident occurred during a home economics class in Eastwood High School this morning (Wednesday, April 1).

This caused the fire alarm to be set off due to smoke being in the building.

No pupils are hurt and there is no damage to the building.

Our staff are working with the local fire service to evacuate the school as a safety precaution.

The school will be closed this afternoon to allow for the smoke to clear.

Parents are being contacted and the school is expected to open as normal on Thursday, April (today).

We will provide update on this page and social media.”
