East Ren welcomes young politicians

The area will bring the young politicos to the Carmichael Hall and Eastwood House in Giffnock.

The event will see attendees discuss and debate a range of issues and choose a national campaign for the Scottish Youth Parliament for the coming year.

The event takes place over the weekend of October 24/25.

Matthew McVeigh, MSYP (Member of the Scottish Youth Parliament) covering Renfrewshire South — Barrhead/Neilston/Uplawmoor, said: “We’re incredibly excited to welcome the elected young people from all across Scotland to our local community.

“This will enable us to raise local issues on a national platform and raise the profile of young people in East Renfrewshire.”

East Renfrewshire Council’s convener for community services and community safety, Councilor Mary Montague, said: “East Renfrewshire is delighted to welcome so many young people, members of the Scottish Youth Parliament and those who work with young people, to this sitting.

“The event is set to see plenty of lively discussion around the topics and issues that are important to young people around Scotland.

“The young people’s enthusiasm and their drive to make a difference and influence decisionmakers will have a positive impact on the future of all young people nationally.”

The Scottish Youth Parliament has been running since its inception in 1999 and is politically independent.
