Eastwood sisters head Philippines charity drive

FUNDRAISING for the Philippines continued over at Eastwood high this week, as Philippines-born head girl Bianca Deladia and sister Vanessa spearhead an appeal to help those affected by the recent typhoon.

A cash collection from fellow pupils has raised £500 for the Disasters Emergency Committee, coordinating the aid collection.

Fifth year Bianca and her sister came to Scotland in 2006, and still have aunts, uncles and cousins living in the province of Cavite, two hours south of Manila.

Thankfully, everyone has been in contact and is safe — but the family are now working to help those worse off, including building shelters and, on the Scottish side, filling boxes with clothing and food supplies.

Bianca said: “Both Vanessa and I implore everyone to give as much as they can afford to assist the disaster appeal.”
