Education continues to hit the heights in East Renfrewshire

The standard of education across East Renfrewshire continues to hit new heights, with significant progress made across all areas.

The annual Standards and Quality Report, which outlines the progress made in key areas of improvement over the past year, was presented to councillors last Thursday (February 1).

By focusing on delivering the vision of ‘Everyone Attaining, Everyone Achieving through Excellent Experiences’, the Council’s Education department and schools have provided the highest quality services for children, young people and adults.

Councillor Paul O’Kane, convener for Education and Equalities, said: “It is extremely pleasing to once again see the significant progress made over the last year highlighted in the annual Standards and Quality Report.

“We are extremely proud of the quality of education provided for all in East Renfrewshire and will continue to focus on raising the bar and closing the attainment gap.”

Highlights include:

•East Renfrewshire schools achieved their best ever exam results in all the key measures for SCQF at level five and above in S4, S5 and S6.

• 96.6 per cent of school leavers in 2015/16 were in a positive destination.

• St Ninian’s High School U14 Football Team was crowned UK and Ireland Champions.

• 708 pupils took part in the schools’ bands, orchestras, ensembles and choirs.

• Three new schools, a family centre and one major refurbishment were completed.
