Elderly man killed in horrific road tragedy

A PENSIONER has died after being hit by a car in a horror accident on Friday.

The 76-year-old was walking north on Hillhead Road, between Auchinairn Road and Wallacewell Road – in the Bishopbriggs/Robroyston area – when he was struck by a Peugeot 307 travelling south.

The man died at the scene.

It has been reported that the vehicle flipped over onto its roof in the incident, with the driver having to be freed from the car.

Strathclyde Police were not naming the victim as the Herald went to press, but confirmed that he was local to the area.

The 44-year-old car driver suffered slight head injuries and was taken by ambulance to Glasgow Royal Infirmary.

The incident happened on Friday, October 26, at around 11.30am.

The road was closed for a number of hours as investigations were carried out.

Sergeant William Graham is appealing for witnesses to the crash to contact the Road Policing Unit in Kirkintilloch on 0141 532 4400.

A report will be submitted to the Procurator Fiscal.
