The Emma Cameron Foundation is holding a dinner, ceilidh and prize auction for the third year in the Oran Mor in Glasgow.

Emma Cameron passed away in 2011, just three weeks before her 12th birthday. The courageous youngster inspired her family, including dad Alan and sister Rachel, to set up the foundation in her name.

An incredible £100,000 has been raised by the foundation, which very quickly achieved within six months what they had realistically aimed to achieve in three years.

During Emma’s final weeks at home the family discovered that no nightly sit-in service was available for children, although it was available for adults with terminal illness.

The foundation’s main aim was to provide such as service and thanks to the money raised, ‘Sleep Tight’ has been provided for the past year by CHAS.

Cash also goes to supporting other children’s charities and groups.

Emma’s dad Alan and his friends completed a cycle across the UK two years ago and raised thousands.

He cared for Emma during her last days.

Alan said: “The £100,000 is probably twice what we ever expected to raise. It’s phenomenal to have used that amount of amount to help people.

“The ceilidh is our main fundraiser and we have had between 150 and 160 people there each year.”

Emma, who was a pupil at Torrance Primary, was only 10-years-old when she was given the devastating news that she had bone cancer in her leg.

Chemotherapy treatment did not work and the youngster had to have her leg amputated above the knee to remove the tumour.

Tragically, months later, an X-ray revealed there were tumours on Emma’s lung.

The event at Oran Mor takes place on Friday, September 19.

Meanwhile, Kirkintilloch Ladies Choir and Westerton Male Voice Choir are holding a spring concert at St David’s Memorial Park Church, in Kirkintilloch, on Saturday, April 26, in support of the Emma Cameron Foundation and Beatson Cancer Charity.
