Engineering staff in fund-raising walk from Queenzieburn to Falkirk Wheel

A TEAM of employees of the BAM Ritchies engineering firm, plus family and friends, last weekend helped the fight against cancer by walking from the Falkirk Wheel to their offices in Queenzieburn.

The staff wanted to raise money for the Beatson oncology unit in Glasgow as one of their colleagues is currently a patient there. The 12-mile trek, which had around 30 participants, has raised over £1,000 so far and money is still being collected.

One of the event organisers, Joanne Kiernan, said afterwards: “It was quite hard going but the weather was kind to us which helped a lot. We kept up a pretty brisk pace although a few of us suffered from blisters and needed to stop occasionally to treat them. I think most of us have recovered now!”
