Enjoy all the fun of gala day festivities

Bishopbriggs have already held their fun and games, with a successful turnout on Saturday at the Fort Theatre. We will have a full report and photos in next week’s Herald.

The annual Lenzie Gala takes place on Saturday, June 4 at Lenzie Rugby Club field.

The date for your diary for Kirkintilloch Gala Day is Saturday, June 11, from 12-4pm.

This follows a week of 
activities, including Praise in the Park at Peel Park 
on Sunday, June 5 from 7.30pm.

Preparations are also well in hand for this year’s Kirkintilloch Canal Festival from August 15-21, and which takes in Gala Sunday.

VIP guests at Lenzie Gala include Gala Queen Sophie Stewart, a pupil at Lenzie Primary School. Page Boy is Viggo McLeod and Maids of Honour Catriona Maguire from Holy Family, Arden Murdoch from Lenzie Moss and Valencia Wright from Millersneuk Primary School.

This year’s Lenzie Community Council Gala theme is “Schools Old and New,” recognising the closure of Lenzie Primary and Lenzie Moss Schools and the 
opening of the new Lenzie Meadow School.

The Gala Queen’s procession starts at Lenzie Station at 12.10p.m.

A huge range of family fun is being arranged, with fairground rides and children’s races and much more.

There will be food ‘a plenty’ with a Marie Curie tea tent, and stalls with Fairtrade goods, burgers, pakora, ice-creams and cakes.

As well as Praise in the Park, Kirkintilloch’s Gala Week of entertainment from June 5-11 includes trials for Kirkintilloch’s Got Talent! at St Mary’s Church on Monday, June 6, from 7pm and the Olympians School Sports at Merkland on Thursday, June 9, from 6.30pm.

The gala day parade leaves Barleybank Car Park at 12pm on Saturday, June 11, heading to Woodhead Park, where a song and dance factory will top the bill.

There will also be a fun fair, stalls and snack bars.

Plenty of events are also in store at Kirkintilloch’s Canal Festival. Entertainment on the bill this year includes dance troupe the Kennedy Cupcakes with some show-stopping routines to hits from the 1940s and 1950s.

There will also be model railway rides, a bouncy castle and lots more.

Dunbartonshire Concert Band will also take centre stage from noon.

The Canal Festival traces its roots back to the Kirkintilloch Police Station Open Day. Exhibitions from emergency services this year include a Vintage Fire engine Display.
