This amazing record of voluntary help with the vital work of the New Lanark-based Scottish Wildlife Trust started way back when he was just six years old, joining the organisation’s Children’s Wildlife Watch programme at the Falls of Clyde.

Now he’s literally grown up into the job of helping to run that whole programme, encouraging the next generation of wildlife watchers to get involved.

All this practical experience is now standing him in good stead as he studies for a degree in Zoology at Edinburgh University.

The long service to our local nature by one still so young won special recognition when Scott was asked to a special reception at the Scottish Parliament, his host being our area’s regional Labour MSP Claudia Beamish.

Scott said: “I started out volunteering through a friend and thought it would be a bit of fun – I couldn’t have imagined where it would lead.”
