Barrhead recycling centre set to reopen – but with restrictions

The Barrhead household waste and recycling centre will reopen this Monday, June 1 – but East Renfrewshire Council has put a range of restrictions in place.

The centre on Carlibar Road will operate Monday to Friday, 10am–3.30pm, with the last entry at 3.15pm each day.

So that the site can operate safely and to prevent traffic issues in the local area, each day it will only be open to residents from a specific East Renfrewshire area.

• Monday – Barrhead, Liboside & Uplawmoor (Ward 1)

• Tuesday – Newton Mearns North & Neilston (Ward 2)

• Wednesday – Giffnock & Thornliebank (Ward 3)

• Thursday – Clarkston, Netherlee & Williamwood (Ward 4)

• Friday – Newton Mearns South & Eaglesham (Ward 5)

Greenhags recycling centre will operate at weekends from Saturday, June 6.

It will only open at weekends for the time being to ensure any queuing traffic does not disrupt access for council vehicles depositing household waste during the week.

Visits are limited to one visit and vehicle per week per household.

You should only travel to the recycling centre if it is your allocated day and you must bring proof of where you live. For example, driving licence, council tax or utility bill. If you do not bring proof of where you live, you will be refused entry.

The Barrhead centre is licensed to accept household waste and materials only for recycling and no vans or trailers will be permitted entry.

White goods, such as a fridge or washing machine, will not be accepted at this time.
