LETTER: Two years of failure over much loved Lennoxtown pond

Sir, – I am amazed not to have seen any letters re the shambles that is Lennoxtown pond. For over two years now EDC has managed an ongoing saga of failure in the renovation of the much loved local wildlife pond.

Sir, – I am amazed not to have seen any letters re the shambles that is Lennoxtown pond. For over two years now EDC has managed an ongoing saga of failure in the renovation of the much loved local wildlife pond.

Meandering inflow with wild flowers, fancy walls, new gates with cobbled areas are all very well but not at the expense of the basic appearance and health of the pond.

The bridge over it has not been reinstated so you can no longer walk round the pond. New seats and picnic tables are not a priority when the pond itself has no feeding for swans, ducks etc as the pond water seems dead. When the pond was covered in scum last year an EDC employee said it was food for Insects!

The initial work on new inflow was started at least two years ago and many locals questioned why it was now so near the outflow. It has had continuing problems including the pond appearing to drain at least twice and remedial work undertaken. Once again today,it looks as though there is a lack of water and heavy plant machinery and fences have appeared again.

Can no-one see the project was flawed from the start and question how many hundreds of thousand have been spent on this complete mess and at least try once and for all to rectify the situation. The pond committee have been unable to influence the ‘experts’.

It is sad to see the state of a once lovely area within the village due to EDC incompetence. – Yours, etc.,

A saddened resident
