New turbine battle for Kilncadzow residents

The proposals for the Hill Rig Windfarm could potentially see the erection of eight turbines with a maximum height of 130 metres being constructed in the Clydesdale countryside.

Applicants Community Windpower Ltd have said that the windfarm would generate 28 megawatts of energy each year powering over 17,000 homes.

The company, based in Motherwell, has also stated in its submissions to the council that the windfarm would bring £140,000 per year in community benefit through payments to SLC’s Renewable Energy Fund.

But objections are already being voiced.One Kilncadzow resident, Lawrence Lovell, said: “I feel that we are already at saturation point and wonder why so many regions seem to be ‘windfarm light’ compared to us.

“Once again developers are attempting to fill in what’s left of a quiet rural area with a windfarm far too close to residential properties.”

Several public exhibitions were held in Carluke, Forth and Carnwath earlier this year and members of the company met Carnwath and Tarbrax Community Councils.
