Pick up before the Games

Keep Scotland Beautiful has launched a campaign to recruit people from all over Scotland who want to support the Clean Up Scotland campaign.

The Clean Up Scotland Campaign is a mass-engagement campaign which aims to quickly remove litter and mess so that Scotland shines when the world is watching in 2014, and to gradually change behaviour so that littering becomes as unacceptable in future as drink-driving is now.

Suzanne Roberts, campaign coordinator for the Clean Up Scotland Campaign, said: “With an unprecedented number of visitors due to come to Scotland in 2014 for the Commonwealth Games and Ryder Cup, it is more important than ever that we present the best possible impression of a country that is as clean as we can make it.

“Each of us has the potential to make a difference through an everyday approach to reducing litter on our streets and in our communities. Taking our pledge to pick up just one piece of litter every day would transform the visual impact of litter. Volunteers who make the promise will be joining a national coalition of individuals, companies and organisations who are committed to making Scotland litter-free.

“With September 26 being the start of the last 300 days before the Glasgow Games, there has never been a better time to join in and make our country clean for 2014”

Those interested in making the commitment, are asked to contact the charity through the campaign website www.cleanupscotland.com, or by e-mail to [email protected].
