Sad ending to missing person search for Cumbernauld mum-of-two Karen Stevenson

There has been a tragic conculsion to a three-week long search for missing mum-of-two Karen Stevenson after police revealed that a woman’s body had been found outwith the town.

Karen who came from Laird’s Hill was last seen on Seafar Road at about 3.15am on Saturday, February 9.

As late as last Friday, police made a fresh appeal after a report of a possible sighting after 4.15am of a woman wearing a distinctive wine-coloured parka jacket, which Karen had been thought to be wearing.

A previous appeal had featured Karen’s family who had said that they just wanted her to come home.

The disappearance was considered to be completely out of character for Karen who had never gone missing before, as specialist units were sent out to search for her.

However, on Sunday, the news that everyone had dreaded came through after police released an update.

A police spokesperson said: “On the morning of Sunday March 13 the body of a woman was found in the Glenboig Road area of Glasgow.Formal identification has yet to take place but the family of Karen Stevenson, who was reported missing from the Cumbernauld area on Saturday February 19 have been informed.“Enquiries into the death are at an early stage.

"It is currently being treated as unexplained but there are not believed to be any suspicious circumstances.”
