ERC offer bedroom tax advice evenings

TENANTS of East Renfrewshire council are being offered an evening visiting service for information on the national bedroom tax introduced last month.

These home visits from the welfare reform team are available on request between 4pm and 7pm.

The new legislation, which came into effect on April 1 as part of the UK government’s welfare reform, created bedroom subsidy changes. Under the new rules, anyone who is considered to under-occupy one bedroom will have their housing benefit reduced by 14 per cent.

Convener for corporate services, councillor Ian McApline, said: “I would urge anyone who feels they need help to understand bedroom subsidy changes, or who is facing financial hardship to get in touch.”
