Essential resurfacing work to be carried out on major M74 junction later this month

Amey, on behalf of Transport Scotland, is undertaking essential resurfacing on the southbound M74 at Junction 8 from Thursday 12 September until Tuesday 17 September.

This work will be carried out using a contraflow, road closures and lane closures as follows: 

• Lane closures both northbound and southbound between M74 Junctions 7 to 9 from 8pm on Thursday 12th September until 6am on Friday 13th September. 
• Closure of the Junction 10 northbound on slip road between 8pm on Friday 13th September until 6am on Saturday 14th September. 
• Traffic will be diverted via the B7078 Carlisle Road through Kirkmuirhill and Blackwood to Canderside Toll Roundabout and turning right onto the A71 Ayr Road and then rejoining M74 at Junction 8. 
• Closure of the southbound M74 between Junctions 7 and 8, with a lane closure on the Junction 8 on slip road with hard shoulder running, and a lane closure on the northbound M74 between 10pm on Friday 13th September and 6am on Saturday 14th September. 
• Traffic will be diverted via the M74 Junction 7 off slip road to follow the A72 Lanark Road and A71 Ayr Road to rejoin the M74 at Junction 8. 
• Contraflow with the southbound M74 Junction 8 closed, between 6am on Saturday 14th September and 10pm on Sunday 15th September. 
• Junction 8 traffic will follow the A71 Ayr Road and the B7078 Carlisle Road to re/join the southbound M74 at Junction 10. 
• Closure of the southbound M74 between Junctions 7 and 8, with a lane closure on the Junction 8 on slip road with hard shoulder running, and a lane closure on the northbound M74 between 10pm on Sunday 15th September and 6am on Monday 16th September. 
• Traffic will be diverted via the M74 Junction 7 off slip road to follow the A72 Lanark Road and A71 Ayr Road to rejoin the M74 at Junction 8. 
• Closure of the Junction 10 northbound on slip road from 10pm on Sunday 15th September until 6am on Monday 16th September. 
• Traffic will be diverted via the B7078 Carlisle Road through Kirkmuirhill and Blackwood to Canderside Toll Roundabout and turning right onto the A71 Ayr Road and then rejoining M74 at Junction 8. 
• Lane closures both northbound and southbound between M74 Junctions 7 to 9 from 8pm on Monday 16th September to 8am on Tuesday 17th September. 

Access for emergency service vehicles will be maintained throughout these works. 

Please note, all schemes are weather dependent and may be cancelled or rescheduled if weather conditions are not favourable. This scheme will benefit vehicles using this route each day, by improving the condition of the carriageway and reducing the need for more extensive maintenance in the future.
