Ethnic misery at airport

A LOCAL politician claims ethnic minorities are avoiding Glasgow airport because of unfair discrimination at security.

Glasgow list MSP Humza Yousaf from Newton Mearns held a meeting at Pollokshields Burgh Hall on Tuesday night to discuss the issue.

Justice secretary Kenny McCaskill was in attendance to answer questions, along with representatives from the police.

Mr Yousaf said: “Many people have raised this from 18-year-old to 80-year-olds.

“The danger is the stops are creating resentment towards the authorities and state, which is completely counter productive”.

He claims that ethnic minorities are choosing to fly from Manchester or London, instead of Glasgow.

Last week Mr Yousaf signed a joint letter to the Home Secretary Theresa May calling for a review of schedule seven.

Resident Soryia Siddique added: “It is important this is raised. I and others from a minority background have noticed increased stopping and questioning at various airports UK and abroad.

“I am not sure if wearing hijab is an added initiator”.
