‘Exceptional’ exam grades delivered to school pupils

Across the district 69.7 per cent of S4 pupils obtained five or more National 5 while 97.1 per cent achieved five or more passes at National 4 and 97.6 per cent at National 3.

In this second year of the new exams which replaced Standard Grades, these results show a rise of 3.2 per cent, 1.5 per cent and 0.8 per cent respectively on 2014.

Initial analysis of SQA exam result data shows that overall achievement rates among East Dunbartonshire secondary school students continue to improve.

There has been further noticeable improvement in all the National Indicators at Advanced Higher and Higher levels. Compared to both the 2014 and 2013 results, performance levels at Higher level continue to be very strong with outstanding results for schools within the authority.

Amongst 5th year pupils, 76.6 per cent obtained one or more Highers while 55.6 per cent achieved three or more Highers.

The number of 5th year pupils achieving five or more Highers rose to 33.1 per cent.

These Higher results show a rise of 4.6 per cent, 3.8 per cent and 4.8 per cent respectively on last year.

Results for 6th year pupils have also increased – most noticeably amongst those gaining three or more Highers, rising 5.2 per cent on 2014 to 36 per cent.

Advanced Higher results rose 0.1 per cent to 30.9 per cent.

“This year is no exception – in fact it is our best set of results ever, showing an increase in all areas of up to 5.2 per cent.

“This is a remarkable improvement on already very strong results and something our pupils, parents and teachers should all be very proud of.

“The council appreciates the hard work of our employees and pupils and our schools will continue to build on this platform for future years as the new qualifications framework is implemented.

“Once again I would like to pass on my congratulations to pupils and teachers on the high quality of results and the continuing hard work undertaken.”
