A certificate of merit for a pupil who was later killed in the First World War is just one of the fascinating artefacts in an exhibition about the history of education in Milngavie.

Douglas Academy pupils helped to organise part of the display in Milngavie Town Hall, which runs until Saturday, March 12.

They were surprised to learn that Douglas Academy has its own three verse song which they hope to now sing at the school at prizegivings.

Organiser Councillor Eric Gotts said: “We’ve had lots of interesting things handed into us including a merit certificate for John Miller from his niece. He became a teacher before he was tragically killed in the 1st World War. We’ve also been given reading books from the 1940s and 60s which were used at St Joseph’s Primary.”
