Explore climate change with Heather the Weather

The event, held on Monday (November 10) at Rouken Glen Park pavilion, will include a talk from Heather — BBC Scotland’s former chief forecaster — on Our Changing Climate: Scotland and Beyond.

Heather will then give way to a series of experiments aimed a young people, using common household items to demonstrate the science behind the changing weather.

An ERC spokeswoman explained: “An evening with Heather Reid will also provide a behind the scenes look at the sometimes turbulent world of weather forecasting for the media.

“The days of damp seaweed have long gone and every TV presentation makes use of the latest satellite technology, radar data and hi-tech super computers.

“This technology also tries to provide some of the answers about how our climate is changing. What does this mean for our local area, Scotland and the rest of the world?”

The guest speaker has a masters in meteorology from the University of Edinburgh, and worked as chief forecaster for the BBC between 1994 and 2009.

Heather is now a member of the board of trustees at the Glasgow Science Centre.
