Fab four schools in line for top awards

Eastwood High School, St Luke’s, Isobel Mair and Busby Primary are finalists in the Scottish Education Awards.

They will all be present at the grand final in Glasgow on Wednesday, June 10, to find out if they are winners.

Newton Mearns school Eastwood High is one of three in the running in the Sciences, Technologies, Engineering and Mathematics category.

Their final places recognises the work that has been done in these subjects, including winning an elite UK-wide engineering competition against more than 100 other schools.

It saw them successfully complete 10 Lego challenges, make a flash mob film for social media demonstrating the importance of engineering in society, and won Eastwood a £20,000 Lego Innovation Studio for the school as well as training for staff members from Lego engineering specialists. Head teacher Stuart Maxwell said: “We are absolutely delighted to be in the finals for the awards.

Isobel Mair School has been shortlisted in the Health and Wellbeing category for a variety of initiatives run by staff, from Better Eating, Better Learning to outdoor challenges. The school, for pupils with additional support needs, said its holistic approach to health and wellbeing aimed to ensure every pupil felt safe, respected, happy and included.

St Luke’s High teacher Joe Herd has been shortlisted in the Educational Supporter of the Year category. And Busby Primary has been nominated in the Enterprise and Employability Across Learning (primary and early Years) category.
