Family praised for holding duck race, clean-ups and bonfire fun...

A LITTER-busting Kirkintilloch family have been put forward for a top honour.

Brian Sewell and his clan hold rubbish clean-ups in the Waterside area along with neighbours.

They have filled dozens of bags and even a skip with items dumped in a nearby field and in the River Luggie.

Brian’s wife, Kirsteen, also organises a duck race for children at Easter and the family arrange an annual Bonfire Night event.

In recognition of their efforts, the family has been nominated for a Herald Community Champions/Civic Pride award.

Brian said: “We clean-up the field every year and last year started clearing rubbish from the Luggie as well.

“It’s spotless and we’ve now started to see salmon come up the river.

“We find all types of rubbish, including nappies, car seats, tyres, and old bikes.

“We also found dozens of dog poo bags that had been dumped at the top of the field.

“Councillor Jack Young supplied us with rubbish bags and Councillor Stewart MacDonald got us a big skip.

“We’ve now started to clear litter from the path between Waterside Road and Bankhead Road every week.”
