Farms to review management for beef calves at weaning

Many farms will be reviewing their calf management for beef calves at weaning as the past summer has had a knock-on effect in terms of their growth and health.

Newly weaned calves are easily stressed and this can cause substantial upset on performance and health. Careful management of the stresses at weaning can pay dividends for farm income.

Steps taken to improve calf welfare at weaning will reduce the length of time which the calves suffer a growth check, and this will improve lifetime performance.
